Chi Wai Lai

Biography

Chi-wai Lai, known as the “King of Lion Rock,” is a former world-class rock climber and a 4-time Asian Rock Climbing Champion who reached a top ranking of No. 8 globally. At age 28, his career was interrupted by a car accident that left him paraplegic. However, on the fifth anniversary of his accident, he achieved a remarkable feat by climbing Hong Kong's Lion Rock using only his upper body, symbolizing resilience. This act gained global media attention and inspired countless people.

Chi-wai now shares his journey through speaking engagements and as a coach, particularly motivated by helping others overcome adversity. Honored as one of Hong Kong’s Ten Outstanding Young Persons, he is also co-founder of “Ignite Community Services,” a nonprofit supporting spinal injury rehabilitation. Through talks, public education, and his book Climbing Over the High Wall of Life, Chi-wai promotes resilience, optimism, and unity across communities.
